Historical notes:
Cryptoporticus is a
construction of
buildings that
spread Roman briefly
around the year 1
B.C, with a
combination of
different techniques
such as reticulated.
Large and lavish
underground
structure, almost
every house had one
noble Roman
(Pompeii, Vicenza,
Villa of Nerone in
Rome) used as a
warehouse and
underground passage,
the public
Cryptoporticus
(Aosta, Urbs Salvia,
Segni) were
constructed in the
vicinity of a square
, a monument or a
temple used most
often in the covered
market, or simply
covered walkway. The
signs of
Cryptoporticus
probably served as a
covered market,
given the country by
two magistrates
belonging to the
family of Volumni.
The town of Segni,
became increasingly
active, thriving,
had now got its
Cryptoporticus
imminence of the
Foro Romano.
The Cryptoporticus
Segni of the
recently discovered,
the current ran
square Lauri, on our
premises you can see
a portion of this
work, patiently
renovated,
maintaining respect
and care for
archaeological
heritage from the
first century. B.C.
entrusted to us. The
cryptoporticos known
are property of the
state, have one
privately is unique.

The cryptoporticus
of signs in the
province of Rome is
located in Via Lauri
and crosses a large
part of the street;
CRYPTO-PORTICUS,
Etim. Portico
underground. The
Cryptoporticus dates
back to the end of
the reign of
Augustus (first half
of the first century
AD), the walls are
in opus reticulatum
opus segninum (a
special lime), has a
large nave and a
high smallest
measuring about 1
meter and a half;
height of about 5
meters, but later in
the Middle Ages,
probably unused
structure was
abandoned and reused
by dividing space in
large blocks
separated by
medieval wall. Was
scope for commercial
use with above roof
gardens. E `was
built by the family
of Volumnii as a
favor to citizenship
segnina. Through the
excavations made
privately we became
aware of a floor
below the existing
pavement of a mosaic
in earthenware (6cm
x 3cm) and several
exhibits.
